Tom Cruise, whose good looks and million dollar smile light
up the silver screen, was born in Syracuse, NY.
.
Tom Cruise plays Dr. William Harford, the husband of Nicole
Kidman, in the movie "Eyes
Wide Shut" - 16 July 1999 release from Warner Brothers.

Death Race 2000 - It is reported that Tom is going to be starring
in the remake of the 1975 David Carradine hit, "Death Race 2000".
The updated film will probably be called "Death Race 3000". Set to
direct is Paul Anderson, you remember his hit, "Mortal Kombat". The writer
who penned the total opposites, "Pretty Woman" and "Under Siege", J.F.
Lawton, will be scripting.
Mission: Impossible 2 - Cruise is now working on the sequel,
"Mission: Impossible 2" and will also be starring in the Steven Spielberg
sci-fi thriller, "Minority Report", both slated for release this year.
Background - Tom Cruise was born in
Syracuse, NY. He didn't have a model childhood having to overcome many
obstacles. His father had moved the family a number of times as he went
from job to job. His parents divorced and he became the man of the house
to his mother and three sisters. Tom Cruise, still hampered by dyslexia,
was a good athlete and decided to make a career in professional wrestling.
However, an injury to his knee put a stop to that and he eventually turned
to acting. In high school his first audiences applauded him in "Guys
and Dolls" and "Godspell".
Tom Cruise definitely had the bug. He quit school and spent months in
New York going to school and auditioning mainly for television shows. After
many more "don't call us, we'll call you's", Tom landed a part in "Taps".
More movies followed with Tom in some memorable coming of age roles such
as, "Losin' It" and "Risky Business". How many times have
you seen imitations of the famous Tom Cruise scene where he slides into
the doorway in shirt, underwear and socks? Ask any woman for a favorite
TC moment and it's sure to be in the top three.
As Tom became more established and opened eyes to the fact that he's
not your average, run-of-the-mill actor, better, more intense parts came
along. In his roles there's the serious, but also the light side of Tom
Cruise. He proved that he could hold his own with the biggies, Dustin Hoffman,
his autistic brother in "Rain Man", Jack Nicholson in "A Few
Good Men" and Paul Newman in "The Color of Money". Tom Cruise
made the world truly sit up and take notice with his portrayal of Ron Kovic
in the true story of the paralyzed Vietnam vet in "Born on the Fourth
of July".
Tom can now ad 'producer' to his credits for his 1996 "Mission Impossible"
and 'director' for an episode of "Fallen Angels" on TV's Showtime.
Tom's latest Oscar nominated performance in "Jerry Maguire" had
everyone pleading "Show me the money!" Another Cruise moment.
Tom Cruise is married to actress Nicole Kidman and they have two adopted
children.
