The Spice Girls are back from their time out with a new CD (The last Spice
Girls CD) though there are only four of them now.

Spice Backgroud - The Spice Girls beginning was in 1994 when the
call went out for females - 18 to 23, having the ability to sing/dance.
The ad, placed in a trade magazine, also asked that those responding to
be "streetwise, outgoing, ambitious and dedicated". This was the beginning
of what eventually brought about the "Spice Girls".
The premise was that there had never been a British girls group as successful
as male groups, such as the Beatles, Duran Duran, U2, etc. The father-son
team of Bob and Chris Herbert placed the ad and interviewed over 400 women
and eventually chose (See Spice Girls Countdown
Table):
For the next few months they had voice and dance training. They were being
groomed to become a new hit sensation. As time went by the girls bonded
and made the decision to get better management. Their new manager, Simon
Fuller, was responsible for launching their careers with Virgin Records.
Their first album, "Spice" was released in the fall of 1996. The album
catapulted their single "Wannabe" to number one on the charts in
twenty-one countries.
As their popularity grew they coined the phrase "Girl Power", which
immediately caught on with teen-age girls of every language. They became
the idols of the teen set and were given nicknames by a teen magazine,
Posh, Baby, Scary, Ginger and Sporty Spice.
Their second album was been released having the same name as the movie
in which they all tackle their first acting roles, "Spice World". There
have been several books written about them and of course there is the "Spice"
dolls.
One book written by them is all about the making of the movie. The book:

is written by the Spice Girls themselves and edited by Sue Carswell. Paperback
with 96 pages, published by Three Rivers.
