|General||.||His smile and raised eyebrow say it all. Roger Moore wanted to be an
artist. The closest he came to it was as an apprentice in animation. He
studied at the Royal Academy of Drama and appeared in plays before the
war called. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the British Army and was in an Entertainment
He got a film contract with MGM in 1953 and had bit parts in many movies. Then came TV. His first big series was "Ivanhoe", followed by "Maverick" (he was the British cousin). Stardom came when he played Simon Templar in his long-running 1960's mystery series, "The Saint".
Roger Moore took over the role of James Bond when Sean Connery said he had done all the Bonds he wanted. Moore was 007 in nine movies from 1972 - "Live and Let Die" to 1985 - "A View To a Kill".
Since 1985 he has kept busy with roles in film and TV. His main interest is raising money for children in underdeveloped countries as a Special Representative for the Film Arts for UNICEF.
