. Robert Redford was a hell-raiser in his youth and he is now one of America's most highly praised and admired actors, directors and producers. 

Background - Grew up in the LA area.  Lived a bohemian life in Europe.  Attended the University of Colorado, Pratt Institute of Art, American Academy of Dramatic Arts. 

Breakthrough Role - Redford played the Sundance Kid to Paul Newman's Butch Cassidy in the box office hit, "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid" 

Milestones  

  • Established the Sundance Institute for aspiring filmmakers, home of the annual Sundance Film Festival. 
  • Accomplished his directorial debut with "Ordinary People" winning him an Academy Award. 
  • Opened chain of Sundance theaters to show only Indie films.
