Next Role? - DiCaprio to go "Psycho" reports the Daily Variety, Monday 18 April 1998. Lions Gate Films will pay DiCaprio $21 million to play psychotic yuppie killer Patrick Bateman in "American Psycho." Pic is expected to start principal photography fall 1998 in New York with a budget in the $40 million area. Casting was announced 15 May. Film is schedule to be finished by spring 1999. Produced by Edward Pressman, Chris Hanley, Muse Productions and Christian Halsey Soloman. Executive producers Jeff Sackman, Joe Drake and Ron Rotholz. A new director is being selected. Pic is based on Bret Easton Ellis' controversial novel that tells the story of a charming young stockbroker who works on Wall Street by day, but leads a violent and nefarious lifestyle by night. When it was published in the late 1980s, the book came under fire from literary, political and feminist circles for its graphic depiction of violence toward women. All the Pretty Horses update 15 April - Looks like it was premature. Both Variety and Hollywood Reporter report that Matt Damon will star in All the Pretty Horses. Leonardo DiCaprio was reported to be in negotiations but reports were that he was delaying his commitment. The Man In The Iron Mask - In his second film of 1998, "The Man In The Iron Mask", Leo has dual roles of Louis XIV of France and his twin brother, Phillippe. That's double Leo! For the film, Leonardo had to learn to fence and dance At first the mask was claustrophobic, but he became used to it after a short time. "The Man In The Iron Mask" is opening extremely wide and is expected to have an excellent opening weekend. Titanic - He started 1998 in the role of Jack Dawson , a young man in love with society girl Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) in the recent blockbuster "Titanic". Book by Michael Laudor. Unconfirmed reports in February 98 that DiCaprio was in discussions to be in the film. More recent reports in March 98 that Brad Pitt is negotiating to star in the movie. "Don's Plum" - Cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maquire, Kevin Connelly, Scott Bloom, Amber Benson and Jeny Lewis. The drama is a night in the life of four guys who are hanging out at a coffeehouse. Directed by R. D. Robb. Originally intended as an improvised short film directed by a long time friend of Leonardo's but later expanded to a full length movie. It may or may not be released to the general public. 15 April 98 update - Leonardo DiCaprio along with fellow actor Tobey Maguire are being sued by David Stutman the producer of "Don's Plum". Stutman claims they have been trying to prevent the release of the film by telling potential distributors that they never agreed to make a full-length feature with him. "American Psycho" - 1999 release by Lions Gate Films.
