. | "Dead Poets Society" (1989), he was a student, one of the followers,
shy, retiring - until the end of the film when he climbed up on his chair
and called, "oh, captain, my captain". Ethan Hawke made his presence known.
Being at that coming-of-age age, he was cast with Jack Lemmon in "Dad",
Jeremy Irons in "Waterland", and Gary Sinise in "A Midnight Clear".
He went on to appear in such films as "Reality Bites", "Before
Sunrise" and the real-life drama of rugby team turned cannibals in
"Alive".
After taking two years off to author his first novel, "The Hottest State" published in 1996, Hawke returned to the screen in the futuristic film "Gattaca". He and partners Robert Sean Leonard and Frank Whaley co-founded the New York City theatre company Malaparte. Family Life - Uma Thurman tied the knot with Ethan Hawke on Friday 1 May 1998.
