Background - Born and raised on a farm outside Benoni, South Africa. Career Goals - Educated in ballet, Charlize has aspirations of being a prima ballerina. She left South Africa, traveling to Europe and the United States. In New York she joined the Joffrey Ballet. She also worked as a model. Career Change - An injury to her knee ended her ballet career. Her mother persuaded her to try to make it in the movies. After two weeks in LA she had an agent, after eight months she had her first screen role in the Tom Hanks film, "That Thing You Do!"
