The record setting movie "Titanic" is based on the true story of
the Titanic and includes the love interest of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate
Winslet.
Vid and Boxoffice status 10 Sept 98 - Consumers
spent an estimated $250 million on purchase and rental of "Titanic" video
in its first six days of release. It took more than five weeks for the
movie to generate that much money at US theaters. An estimated 12-15 million
copies were sold during the 1-6 September time period and the "Titanic"
video is on pace to top out at 22-23 million copies. By comparison "The
Lion King" sold 20 million copies during its firs six days and 26 million
during its first two weeks in stores on route to overall sales of 30 million.

After 38 weeks overseas, "Titanic" international boxoffice gross is
at an incredibly high $1.2 billion. Add another $600 million of domestic
box office for a collected worldwide total of $1.8 billion. Japan alone
registers $187 million after 38 weeks.

Oscars 23 March 1998 - Titanic wins a record tying 11 Oscars
out of the record setting 14 Oscar nominations.
Titanic
had tied the 1950 Black and White film "All About Eve" starring
Bette Davis as the most nominated film in Oscar history (Academy Awards
held in 1951). As for wins, Titanic has tied the 1959 film "Ben Hur"
starring Charlton Heston which also won in 11 categories to share the spot
as most honored film of all time.

DGA Award - The 50th Annual DGA Awards Dinner was held Saturday
7 March 1998 at the Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, California. The
Directors
Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature
Film for 1997 went to James Cameron for Titanic. James Cameron was
a first-time nominee for this award.

Album Sales - The
original "Titanic" soundtrack album has sold more than 25 million
units worldwide and is 10 times platinum in the United States. The film's
soundtrack sequel, "Back to Titanic", moves up to No. 2 with 164,000 units.
Status is for week ending 6 September 1998 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
