"Armageddon" - is the
adventure movie about a large asteroid the size of texas that is on a collision
course with Earth. Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, and Steve Buscemi lead a
gang of wisecracking renegades to save Earth from destruction by the asteroid.
Lots of special effects.
Budget - Production costs reported to be $140 to 160 million.
Marketing and advertising budget reported to be approximately $60 million.
ABC - ABC on Monday 30 June 1998 bought the broadcast rights
to Armageddon for a reported $25 to $30 million. This is in lie
with Godzilla and Deep Impact. Surprise, the Disney owned ABC acquired
the rights to this Disney film plus some others in a package deal for around
$40 to $45 million. The deal is for the first 2 runs of Armageddon. The
remaining 3 runs are still open, even for purchase by another network.
Opening - Armageddon opened in 20 theaters in 19 cities
at a midnight showing at 12:01 am Wednesday 1 July.
Disney announced that Armageddon will gross an estimated $34.8 million
over the Friday-to-Sunday holiday weekend. Estimated total gross since
the film's Wednesday release is $52.9 million.
